Social media community guidelines

Thank you for showing an interest in our social media channels!

 These spaces are here to:

  • Support foster carers, fostering families and fostering services by providing advice and resources.
  • Raise awareness of fostering and its vital role in transforming children’s lives.
  • Campaign for a better foster care system.
  • Celebrate and share experiences within the fostering community.

We want these channels to be safe, respectful, and supportive spaces for everyone -whether you’re sharing your story, seeking advice or learning about fostering.

When participating in our online community, we ask that you follow these guidelines.


1. Be respectful, kind and empathetic

  •  Respect others’ opinions and share yours in a nonjudgemental and compassionate manner. If you disagree with the content or someone’s opinion, you are free to do so in a polite way.
  • Don’t make untrue statements about The Fostering Network, its employees, its services.
  • Think before you post – is this the most appropriate way to share your views? Would it be more constructive to send a private message and speak to someone at The Fostering Network directly?

2. Stay safe and sensitive

  • If discussing sensitive topics like allegations, trauma or challenges you’ve experienced as a foster carer, please be aware of the need for privacy of those involved and the potential impact that providing  explicit details  could have on others.
  • Respect the privacy of others - don’t post personal details about yourself or others, including their personal stories, names or locations, without consent.

3. Keep it relevant

To keep our discussions focused and meaningful:

  • Avoid sharing off-topic or repetitive posts (spam).
  • Refrain from promoting commercial products, services, or unrelated campaigns.

4. Zero tolerance for discrimination

Our community is diverse, and we celebrate and support everyone. We will not tolerate content that is:

  • Racist, sexist, sectarian, or xenophobic.
  • Homophobic, biphobic, or transphobic.
  • Ableist, ageist, antisemitic, or Islamophobic.
  • Discriminatory or hateful in any other way.

Even if unintended, if a comment is offensive or harmful, we will take action to address it. Our decision to hide or remove comments is final.


5. Moderation and content management

To maintain a safe and welcoming environment:

  • We will hide or delete comments that break these guidelines.
  • Comments containing obscenities, harmful language, or spam may be automatically filtered.
  • If necessary, we may block users who repeatedly violate these guidelines.

6. Our moderation hours

Our social media channels are managed/monitored  Monday – Friday, 9.00am – 5.00pm, and are not aimed to be support service for foster carers.
