Fostering Finances: Empowering Young People Through Money Management

This free webinar exclusively for members of The Fostering Network, will explore practical ways to teach money management to young people in foster care, using the Money Springboard toolkit. Learn how to create positive money-learning experiences, helping care leavers feel more confident about budgeting and financial independence.

About this webinar:

Learning to manage money is an essential skill for adult life, particularly for young people in care who often gain independence at an age when 90% of their peers are still living at home. The UK Government’s ‘Ready or Not’ report found that one in ten care leavers felt unsafe upon leaving care, primarily due to financial concerns, with many expressing uncertainty about their financial responsibilities, such as budgeting and paying bills.  Quaker Social Action have produced ‘Money Springboard’  a series of toolkits for adults working with children and young adults in care.

Carrie Comfort from Quaker Social Action will be sharing valuable advice on teaching money management and highlights how to create positive money-learning experiences through everyday interactions including the common sense advice:

  • Talk about everyday finances
  • Reassure and provide solutions
  • Plan a shopping trip together
  • Keep it simple
